Wen Zhong Phoenix Dancong

$25.00

A gardenia-scented old-tree Dancong, sweet and creamy, with the deeper “old bush” base young trees don’t have.

O R I G I N — Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou, Guangdong
T Y P E — Oolong tea · Phoenix Dancong · gardenia aroma (huangzhi xiang)
C A F F E I N E — Medium High
S I Z E — 40 g (1.4 oz)

Wen Zhong is one of the hundreds of named single-bush strains on Phoenix Mountain, in the gardenia-aroma family, named after Lin Shiwen, the tea maker who tended the original bush and processed it on its own. The trees this batch comes from are 50 to 80 years old. This is the broken grade, sorted after roasting — smaller pieces, same trees, same roast, at a fraction of the whole-leaf price. It brews faster and stronger, so use a touch less leaf and keep steeps short.

A R O M A — High and lasting, gardenia and honey, with a creamy edge close to Ya Shi Xiang
T A S T E — Bright orange-gold, sweet and mellow, old-tree depth underneath, with a strong return that lingers
